My radiator froze this morning and only made it two miles before reaching 250 degrees and spewing coolant everywhere. I wanted to pull a roadkill but I didn't have a socket set. Had to stop every mile or so to let the engine cool back down to 200. It was a long trip to school. I fixed the problem during my study hall though. I never had any of these problems driving my Trans Am last year in the winter.

Well damn... I had heard of such a thing but wasn't sure it could actually happen in inhabitable places. Sorry to see it's possible, hope you get it back on the road soon.

"I wanted to pull a roadkill" <— exactly what I was going to suggest when clicking this, lol

"pull a roadkill"
Huh?

What was the problem? Thermostat?

Damn, Bandit. I hope it was something like a thermostat. You seem pretty competent when it comes to cars.

That picture takes me back... My old suburban used to do this any time it got cold out, hot out, or if I looked at it wrong... Good truck took me through high school though

I see you haven't seen roadkill. The greatest car show on youtube, possibly ever!

How did the radiator freeze? doesn't it have the right mix of coolant/water to prevent it?

All the water was frozen inside the radiator and hoses. This isn't my truck so I haven't really been looking after it. I never checked to see what the PO put in the radiator. She didn't use any antifreeze :/ The truck is also about 50,000 overdue for new trans fluid and a filter, it also needs an oil change in 500 miles (I did one when the car was bought). I just don't have the time right now to work on it.

Okay, but what specifically does that show have to do with an overheating car and a socket set?

Literally all the water in the system froze.

In the 50s one of the drivers of the Jaguar race team left water in the radiator over a really cold night. The radiator froze and they couldn't race.
lolololololol

Wheeler Dealers is pretty damn good...

Yeah, that's not good. How did you fix it? Wait until thaw-time and just warm up the whole thing?

I am telling you. I watched 10 episodes in a row when I found out about Roadkill. It is really good! You should check it out.

Let your parents know if you haven't done so yet. It's their truck, right?

Better than Mighty Car Mods?
Doubtful.
I will have a look.

Okay, it isn't that good, but it is pretty good. I swear! They take pieces of crap and do crazy things with them! Like go to Alaska from Montana in a Ranchero!

Yeah. I keep complaining to them that it needs work done. I finally bothered them enough to get them to replace the ball joints because the steering was dangerous. It's got almost 150,000 miles, practically all wear parts need replaced. I just undercoated the frame before winter and have taken care of a little of the body rust.

Seriously, just watch it. Don't blame me when you fall in love with the show. First 10 seconds and you'll be hooked.

Have you watched the show? It's hard to explain without having you watched the show, but basically, they fix and drive old american cars which are usually in crappy condition. Said cars overheat; so they remove the hood so that the car doesn't over heat. On the show fixes like that and using ghetto and quick fixes they call them "roadkill moments".

Yep. Pored some hot water into the radiator and it melted some of the ice. That wasn't a very good fix though. Once I got the car home I put it in the garage for a bit.

Bummer. Hope the block is OK.
